Lawford Church of England Primary School is located in Manningtree, Essex. After a Council-led consultation, it was agreed that the school would increase from a single-entry to a double-entry intake. This resulted in classroom and support space for an additional 120 pupils.

The creation of the building reduced the outside space available to the school. To create the best learning and recreation space both inside and outside, the design was created to maximise light, being aware of security issues and create a new MUGA (multi-use games area). The design resulted in a two-storey block with configuration to the existing building to create a studio space. The expansion includes eight classrooms, as well as toilet facilities, a library and two SEN rooms. The outside space includes scooter and cycle parking and the MUGA.

Ceetech was appointed to design, supply and install the following services:

• BMS Services

• Incoming Mains

• LV Distribution

• Small Power

• Artificial lighting

• Fire alarms

• Communication Systems

• Security Systems

• Photovoltaic Systems

• Ventilation

• Heating

• Domestic hot and cold services

• Above ground drainage

The contract ran from April to September 2021. Whilst all projects and sites present challenges with security and working practices, working in a primary school, given the age of the children, and security risks, needs additional care.

For twelve weeks of the twenty-week project, the school was open and operating within COVID-19 guidance. Ceetech has worked with Barnes Construction, the main contractor, and Essex County Council, on projects on numerous

occasions before and have developed a fantastic working relationship. This encouraged open communication channels and the flexibility needed to stay on schedule despite COVID-19 issues.

Ceetech managed planning meetings and accelerated working to manage the final deadline and keep to the project timescales. The new building was handed over to the school with the new space being occupied in September 2021.
